Gaebaek was a general of Baekje in the 600s. At that time, the kingdoms of Silla and Tang China were planning to join forces to defeat Baekje and Goguryeo. They decided to attack Baekje first.

Gaebaek was the commander during this time. Before going to war, he killed his own family, believing it was better for them to die than to become slaves of another country. Gaebaek and his 5,000 soldiers fought bravely and won five battles against the Silla forces.

However, when a young Silla soldier named Gwanchang volunteered to kill Gaebaek and was killed instead, the Silla soldiers became very angry. Eventually, the two sides met at a place called Hwangsanbeol and fought a fierce battle. Even though Gaebaek and his 5,000 soldiers fought courageously, they were all killed. That battle marked the end of the Baekje kingdom.

I think Gaebaek was very smart and brave, but I would not kill my family if I were him. I believe being a slave is better than being killed by your own family.
