The Mongol Empire invaded Goryeo first in 1231 and attacked Goryeo six more times until 1254. At that time, the ruling class of Goryeo did not have enough power to keep the country. They ran away to 강화 island. However, the people of Goryeo did not give up. A brave army called 삼별초 kept fighting to the end. Sadly Goryeo lost, but Mongol interference, it maintained its independence, at least in name, through persistent resistance and negotiation. Before independent from Mongol, the people of Goryeo had to wear Mongolian costume. The Goryeo prince was forced to marry a Mongol princess. I think it wouldn't be easy. During the Mongolian invasion, the people of Goryeo made 팔만대장경. It is Buddhist text on more than 80,000 wood blocks. They really wanted Buddha to save the country.
