I believe that Korean history is very special because our ancestors always implied deep ideologies in various features. One of the famous ideologies that is still ingrained in our culture is Confucianism. Joseon is a country that king Taejo established based on Confucianism. Confucianism is an ideology made by Confucius °øÀÚ, valuing manners, filial piety and loyalty the most important thoughts. We can find this ideology reflected in many of our cultures and heritages and one of it is the officials. There were two separated officials in Joseon, and they were civil officials and military officials. Civil officials were treated as the higher classed officials than the military officials. It was because what the civil officials study mostly was Confucianism. So, they were placed at the east side because east was more regarded as high class because it is where the sun rises. Confucianism is not a religion believing in one particular god. There were many rituals to thank the Confucius and the good spirits, such as the rituals in Munmyo shrine. Sunggyungwan school was also mainly established based on the Confucianism. So, the academy and the Munmyo shrine were the center of Joseon Confucianism. While learning about Hanyang in the Seoul History Museum, I found Confucianism reflected in our nation highly advanced and deep. I am hoping to study more about our heritages based on Confucianism. |
