Today I learned about lives of Koreans from birth to death. There were many celebrations like coming of age or marriage. But the most interesting one was Hwangap.
Hwangap is a celebration for a person that lived until the age of 61. Back then, people lived to about 40, so living until age of 61 was very meaningful. In the celebrations, they had fruits, snacks, and ricecakes. And the sons and daughters usually offered wines for the elders. The 61st birthday was special because the year they were born, came back when they were 61. It's according to the 10stems and 12branches(10°£ 12Áö). But nowadays, they celebrate 70th birthday because now people live longer.
It was very interesting to learn about life of our ancestors. But I didn't really like the style of their marriage because I couldn't pick the partner. Thank you!
