Hi, my name is Won, and I'll be talking about Changgyeonggun.

So originally, King Seongjeong built that place for his mother and grandmother. The place burned down during the 1592 Japanese invasion, but it was rebuilt by King Gwanghae in 1616. Changgyeonggun has three sad stories that I will discuss. The first one is about Lady Jang. She was married to the king, but the king divorced her and married another person. Lady Jang got mad, so she cursed the new queen, and the queen died. Back in Joseon, if you killed the king or queen, you could get a death sentence, and guess what the king found out, so he ordered Lady Jang to drink poison right in the back garden of  Changgyeonggun. And she was also the mother of the next king, King Gyeonjong. The next one is about the Crown Prince Sado. He was locked up in a rice chamber because he was acting crazy and not following the rules of a crown prince. He also killed innocent people. So, to set an example of what happens when you don't follow the rules, he went inside a rice chamber. He survived there for a week, but on the eighth day he died. The last sad story of Changgyeonggun is when the Japanese took control of Korea, they tried to erase Korea's history by doing crazy things, but what they did to Changgyeonggun crossed the line, they made Changgyeonggun a zoo and renamed it Changgyeongwon, and also they made a botanical garden. Thankfully, it was restored in 1984.

To sum up, it was kind of fun and boring learning about it because I learned it in Damduk 1. Anyways, thank you for listening.
