There were 5 palaces during the Joseon Dynasty. Between those, we visited Gyeongbok Palace which was the main and largest among the 5. I have visited there several times, but every time I visit there, I always forgot about it's meaning. However, from now on, I think I can tell you about palace and other places in the palace's meanings.
There are 2 things that I was impressed in the Palace.
First of all, I was surprised that almost every buildings and pillars were built by the Yin and Yang theory. I was surprised because it is very hard to make them by the Yin and Yang theory in the limited place.
Another thing is that there is no dragon ridge on the king and queen's each own living quarter's roof. There are dragon ridges on all the other buildings' roof, but they don't. The reason was very amazing. It was that there can't be 2 dragons in one building. In the king's living quarter, there is a dragon called "king", and in the queen's living quarter, there is a dragon called "crown prince".
I knew that there are some reasons about the palace, but I didn't know that there were reasons in every buildings. Today's class gave me more interest in Gyeongbok Palace. |
