Today, I learned about Changgyeonggung and Gyeongungung. I was interested in how the Japanese changed our palaces.
During the Japanese colonization, they changed lots of things in our palaces. In Changgyeonggung, they didn't even treat Changgyeonggung as a palace, and they made it to become a zoo and a botanical garden. In Joseon time, only people that could go in the palace was the officials and the royal family. But they changed it to let people in even if they are not a royal family or officials. That was a humiliation to the Joseon royal family.
Also, they changed Gyeongungung, also known as Deoksugung. In front of Seokjojeon, there was a pond. It was a rectangular shape, but they changed it to a strange shape. It is a humiliation to the Korean tradition of making a pond.
I think what the Japanese did was very bad. I think there should be no more humiliation to our palaces. Thank you.
