Today, I learned about Gwanrye and Gyerye. I was especially interested in Gwanrye, because Gwanrye has more steps to follow than Gyerye. I'll talk about it.
Gwanrye is a coming-of-age ceremony for men. They change their hairstyle to Sangtoo, from their original long hair straight, not tied. And they start to wear gat, the traditional hat of the Korean Peninsula. Also, they have another change in outwears, which is the clothes. They start to wear Dopo, which is a long clothes with big sleeves. They have some changes in their names, which is not the names they used to call when they were little, such as '°³¶ËÀÌ.' They get new names to write on family register and they also get a nickname in front of their names. Also, they start to get ready for marriage and national exams.
I think it was hard to live in Joseon Dynasty and I am so relieved to be born in Republic of Korea. Thank you.
