Today, I would like to talk about the population of Hanyang and the reason why people in Hanyang put their names on their bowls.

In the 1450s, Hanyang had a population of 109,375. At that time, London had around 75,000 people, while Paris had about 150,000. By the 18th century, the population of Hanyang had grown to 189,153. Because Hanyang was quite densely populated, community life was very important.

During ceremonies or parties, people often shared tools and kitchenware. However, during the Joseon Dynasty, bowls and cups were expensive. To make sure these items were returned to their rightful owners, people would write their family names on their bowls.

I found it interesting to learn about the population of Hanyang. I hope I can visit the Seoul History Museum again.
